Guilford Opens Swimming Season at ODAC Relays
LEXINGTON, Va. (10/24/09) -- Guilford College's women's swimming team opened the 2009-10 season with a seventh-place finish at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) relays Saturday. The Quakers, which fielded teams in seven of 10 events, scored 101 points in the seven-team meet, five points behind fifth-place Emory & Henry College. Meet host and two-time defending league champion Washington and Lee University scored 362 points and easily outdistanced the rest of the field.
The Quakers' best showing came in the 150-yard backstroke relay where the team placed sixth among 11 teams in a time of 1:53.06. Freshman Becca Dozier, junior Naomi Lewis and junior Daphne Murphy comprised Guilford's entry, with Murphy notching the best split time (34.52). Guilford's 150 breaststroke team of freshman Luz Martinez, sophomore Kelcey Johnson and senior Justine Merritt took seventh among 11 teams in a time of 2:04.44.
Coach Steve Kaczmarek's club returns to action Friday (10/30) at league-rival Sweet Briar College.
