Guilford Splits Tri-Meet With Salem and Greensboro

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (2/2/10) -- Emma Phillips won four events and Dani Horne won three times to give Greensboro College a sweep of Salem College and Guilford College in a nonleague women’s swimming meet at Salem Tuesday night.

The Pride (7-3) outscored the host Spirits (2-9), 165-64, and the Quakers by a 155-75 count.  Guilford (3-4) defeated Salem, 142-72. The teams competed in 13 events, mostly sprints, including two relays.

Phillips and Horne both swam on the Pride’s winning relay teams that opened and closed the meet. After helping Greensboro to first in the the 200-yard medley relay, Phillips won the 50 backstroke in 32.63 seconds. She later captured the 100 butterfly (1:05.75), the 100 breaststroke (1:13.34) and the 200 individual medley (2:27.93). Horne posted wins in the 50 breaststroke (35.69), the 50 freestyle (27.66) and the 100 freestyle (1:01.18).

Guilford’s Allison Semmler won the 200 freestyle in 2:20.34. She also recorded second-place finishes in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle.

Bethany Eaton took the 100 breaststroke for the host Spirits and was second in the 50 backstroke.

All three teams return to action Feb. 12-14 at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference/Atlantic States Championships in Radford, Va.
