Quakers Place Sixth at ODAC Championships
Day Three Results (ODAC only)
RADFORD, Va. (2/15/09) - Guilford College's women's swimming team placed sixth among eight teams at the 2009 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships, which concluded Sunday at Radford University. The Quakers recorded 202 points, 25 behind fifth-place Randolph College. Washington and Lee University won the title with 1,010 points, 303 points better than Randolph-Macon College in the eight-team field. The Generals' Lindsey Strachan was named the ODAC's Swimmer of the Year.
The Atlantic States Championship was determined concurrent to the ODAC meet. Guilford placed ninth among 12 teams in these results. Washington and Lee captured the Atlantic States crown as well.
Guilford's 400-yard freestyle relay team scored the Quakers' most points Sunday with a ninth-place finish. The team recorded a season-low time of 4:21.14. Junior Justine Merritt, who swam the leadoff leg in the race, turned in the Quakers' best individual result Sunday. She placed 11th in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:49.31. Her time of 2:46.74 in a preliminary heat marked the Quakers' fastest of the season and second-fastest in school history. Teammate Kelsey Albert placed 17th in the 200 butterfly in 2:49.65
The meet marks the conclusion of Guilford's swimming season. The Quakers recorded seven season-low times in the 18-event championships and finished the year with a 4-4 overall record, 3-3 in ODAC meets.
