Records Fall in Savannah Meet

MEET RESULTS

Savannah, Ga. (12/3/06) - Guilford 's women's swimming team set five school records at the Savannah of Art & Design Invitational Dec. 1-3.  The NCAA Division III Quakers placed 10th among 11 point-scoring teams at the meet, which consisted largely of Division II and NAIA institutions.

Freshman Jacey Joern won the 'B' final of the 400-yard medley in a school-record time of 5:18:29.  She also set the school standard in the preliminaries of Sunday's 200 backstroke, but did not qualify for the finals.  Joern swam the third leg of the Quakers' 400 medley relay team Saturday that placed 12th in a record time of 4:41.52.

Classmate Justine Merritt notched her fourth and fifth school records in her sixth college event.  Merritt swam the 200 freestyle in 2:11.37 Saturday, which set the school standard, but did not qualify for the finals.  She completed Sunday's 500 freestyle in 5:52.30, nearly 18 seconds faster than the previous mark set by Amanda Oehlert in February. Merritt also swam on the record-setting 400 medley relay squad.

Coach Steve Kaczmarek's club (2-4, 2-3 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) returns to action January 27 in a home meet with league-rival Sweet Briar and Catawba.
