Guilford Picked Fifth in ODAC Swimming Poll
Greensboro, NC (10/30/06) -- Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) swimming coaches picked Guilford College fifth in the league's preseason poll Friday. Washington and Lee, the defending ODAC champion, topped the seven-team poll with four first-place votes.
Head coach Steve Kaczmarek returns 11 letter winners from last year's squad that set 13 school records during the season. Guilford looks to overcome the loss of 2005-06 team Most Valuable Swimmer Dana Putney, who is sidelined for the season with an injury, and All-ODAC selection Lauren Truelove. The Quakers still return a strong group of swimmers, including Kate Talbot at butterfly and freestyle, Maddie Winters at individual medley and backstroke and Amanda Ohlert and Genevieve Holmes at freestyle. With the addition of nine new swimmers, Kaczmarek hopes to mix the veterans and rookies to form a competitive ODAC team.
The Quakers began their regular season at Catawba last Saturday. Their first home meet is November 4 against Hollins, ranked sixth in the coaches' poll, in the Ragan-Brown Field House Pool.
