Salisbury, NC (01/28/06) - Catawba won all 10 events and defeated visiting
Guilford 124-59 in women's swimming action Saturday afternoon at Johnson Pool.
Three Catawba seniors were honored as Erin Hyde, Cara Shaffner and Jessie
Tarlton swam in their final home meet.
Hyde won a pair of individual events. She took the opening individual swim in
the 200 free (2:02.13) and also won the 100 fly (1:02.06). Leigh Spada and Kira
Capano also won a pair of individual swims. Spada won the 50 free (26.12) and
the 500 free (5:34.81), while Capano took top honors in the 200 IM (2:20.96) and
100 free (58.51).
Mollie Landers won the 100 breaststroke in a lifetime best time of 1:25.62 and
Christine Ofslager won the 100 back (1:05.70). Hyde and Spada, along with Casey
Hudgins and Ofslager swam to a win in the 200 free relay, while Capano joined
Margeaux Dioron, Ofslager and Tarlton to win the 200 medley relay.
Guilford's Lauren Truelove turned in second-place finishes in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races. She finished the 50-yard race in 27.33 seconds and the 100-yard race in 59.61 seconds. Sophomore Elena Soliz was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:26.20) and Dana Putney placed second in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:33.10.
The Quakers close the 2005-06 season Feb. 17-19 at the Atlantic States/Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships in Radford, VA.
