GUILFORD'S SOLIZ NAMED ODAC SWIMMER OF THE WEEK

 

Greensboro, NC (11/08/04) -- Guilford freshman Elena Soliz was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Swimmer of the Week, for the week ending Oct. 31. She is the first Guilford swimmer to receive the honor.

 

Soliz, a 5-7 freestyler, won three events in the Quakers' Oct. 30 meet versus Emory & Henry. She won the 100 freestyle in 1:05.85 and helped two Guilford relay teams to victory. Soliz swam the first leg in the 200 freestyle relay, setting the team up for a dominant finish in 2:07.36, 17.35 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. In the 200 medley relay, Soliz swam the anchor leg to earn a 2:24.87 team time, 5.95 seconds ahead of second-place Emory & Henry. The Quakers won the meet, 146-28, with Soliz accounting for 31 of Guilford's points.

 

            Coach Steve Kaczmarek's Quakers (1-0, 0-0 ODAC) are in their first year of competition. Guilford returns to action Nov. 12 in a tri-meet at Hollins with Washington and Lee.
