GUILFORD COLLEGE WOMEN'S SWIMMING TEAM EARNS ACADEMIC HONOR
Greensboro, NC (4/14/05) -- Guilford College's women's swimming team has been recognized by the College Swim Coaches Association of America for its success in the classroom. The Quakers, in their first season as a varsity sport, earned "Superior" academic All-American status by virtue of their 3.26 cumulative grade point average (GPA).
Including all men's and women's swimming and diving teams in the NCAA and junior colleges, 247 squads representing 155 different institutions made the academic list. Of those, 85, including Guilford, earned the "Superior" designation with a 3.25 or above. Another 114 received the "Excellent" designation for GPA's between 3.00 and 3.24. The remaining schools earned "Commendable" recognition.
Coach Steve Kaczmarek's first-year Quakers logged a 2-5 overall record and placed sixth among six teams at the 2005 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships. All 12 student-athletes are slated to return for the 2005-06 campaign.
