Women's Swimming Coaching Staff

- Head Coach Steve Kaczmarek
Steve Kaczmarek is the Quakers’ first and only head women’s swimming coach. He owns over 35 years of aquatics coaching and administration experience. His five-year record at Guilford stands at 20-26 and one Quakers' swimmer, Lauren Truelove, has received All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference in his tenure.
Kaczmarek served as the Natatorium Supervisor and Aquatic Director for the Corpus Christi (Texas) Independent School District (CCISD) from 2000-04. He oversaw a natatorium staff of nine, including five swimming coaches and a diving coach, and coordinated the school district’s aquatics activities. In his tenure, the district added competitive middle-school swimming programs and developed a district-wide Learn to Swim Program. Kaczmarek also served as the meet director for regional and district championships.
Before assuming his administrative role, Kaczmarek coached high school teams in the CCISD from 1984-2000. He inherited a scholastic swimming program that consisted of seven swimmers. Over time he built the district’s program to include over 150 participants and a head swimming coach for each of the district’s five high schools. Kaczmarek received a regional coaching honor in 1990 for his work at Carroll High School and was considered for the 1986 Texas High School Swimming Coach of the Year Award. He received District Coach of the Year laurels from 1984-94 with his Carroll High School teams and from 1979-84 at Kingsville High School. Kaczmarek coached Miller High School’s team from 1994-2000.
A 1975 Texas Tech University graduate, Kaczmarek worked with the school’s swimming team under longtime coach Jim McNally. He earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education and health (curriculum and instruction) and took his first aquatics director position in Plains, Texas, in 1976. There he established a 60-person swimming program and the Plains High School swimming team. He served as a coach and aquatics director for the Kingsville (Texas) Independent School District from 1978-84. The Wichita Falls, Texas, native coached an All-American and 10 all-state swimmers in six years in Kingsville.
A member of San Antonio College’s swimming team from 1970-72, Kaczmarek has also coached extensively on the club level and spent 10 years on the Coastal Bend Aquatics staff in Corpus Christi until 1994. He is a member of the American Swimming Coaches Association and has a lifetime membership with the Texas Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association.
Assistant Coach Emily Lapinski
Emily Lapinski starts her second year as a Quakers' assistant. A 2004 elementary education graduate of Northern Michigan University, Lapinski was a four-year member of the varsity swimming and diving team. She gained coaching experience in two years as an assistant coach in the Marquette (Mich.) Area Public School System and as the swim coach and program coordinator for Marquette Community Schools. Lapinski directed the Holt Hurricanes Swim Club in 1998 and presently teaches in the Guilford County School District.
