Guilford Trio Honored on All-ODAC Women's Soccer Teams

Greensboro, N.C. (11/13/08) -- Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's soccer coaches selected Guilford College's Jada Daniel and Lauren Baber to their Second Team All-ODAC squad, league officials announced Tuesday. Senior midfielder Amanda Sperr represented the Quakers on the All-ODAC Sportsmanship Team.

Daniel, a junior forward, received Second Team All-ODAC honors for the second time in her career. She started 18 games for Guilford this season and finished second on the team in points (14), assists (6) and goals (4). Daniel ranks ninth among league leaders in assists and assists per game (.33) through games of Nov. 8. Her best game this season came in a 4-1 victory over Bridgewater College when she had one goal and two assists for four points. Daniel is tied for 10th place in Guilford women's soccer history with 12 career assists. She has 16 goals and 12 assists for 44 points in 51 career games.

Baber, a senior defensive midfielder, received All-ODAC honors for the first time in her career. She started all 20 games for the Quakers and ranked fifth on the team with eight points off of four goals. She netted the game-winning tally in the second overtime period of Guilford's 3-2 road win over Emory & Henry College Oct. 29. The score marked her team-leading third game-winning goal of the season. Baber also played well against Randolph College Oct. 15 when she matched her career high with two goals in the 6-0 win.

Sperr, a senior midfielder, started 19 games for the Quakers. She ranked fourth on the team with a career-high 11 points off of four goals and three assists. The team captain concluded her career with 34 points (14 goals, 6 assists) in 73 games. Also an accomplished student, Sperr won Guilford's 2007-08 Garness Purdom Award for academic achievement and exceptional leadership. She is a three-time Academic All-ODAC honoree and a six-time member of Guilford's Student-Athlete Honor Roll.

Coach Eric Lewis’ Quakers ended the season with an 8-12 record, 6-5 in the ODAC. Guilford closed the campaign with a 6-0 loss to Washington and Lee University in the ODAC Tournament quarterfinals. Lewis could return as many as 19 letter winners in 2009, including Daniel.
