Guilford Women's Soccer Team Climbs in Regional Rankings

Greensboro, N.C. (10/5/06) -- The Guilford College women's soccer team is ranked sixth in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas NCAA Division III South Region Rankings. The rating marks an all-time high for the Quakers, who debuted at ninth in the weekly poll Sept. 19.

Coach Eric Lewis' club is 7-4-1 following Wednesday's 0-0 double-overtime tie at Washington and Lee, the region's third-ranked team. The Generals are ranked 18th in this week's NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division III National Rankings and lead the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) with 17 points, one point ahead of the Quakers (5-1-1 ODAC). Guilford has won seven of its last nine matches and posted a 7-1-1 record in that time.

Senior forward Jennah Carter leads the Quakers with 27 points on 12 goals and three assists. She ranks fourth among ODAC points per game leaders and third in points. Her 12 goals stand second in the conference. Senior goaltender Veronica Zych made a career-high 16 saves in the Washington and Lee shutout, her third of the year, to lower her goals against average to 2.01.

The Quakers return to action Saturday (10/7) at league-rival Randolph-Macon. The start of the match has been changed to 1:00 p.m. Guilford returns home for a nonconference match with Meredith Oct. 10 at 4:00 p.m.
