Women's Soccer ODAC Preason Poll

  • QUAKERS PICKED FOURTH IN WOMEN'S SOCCER POLL

Greensboro, N.C. (8/21/06) -- Guilford College was chosen fourth by Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's soccer coaches in the league's annual preseason poll Monday. The Quakers' preseason ranking in the 12-team poll ties last season's mark for Guilford's highest spot since the conference started the poll in 1997.

Defending ODAC Tournament champion Lynchburg received seven first-place votes and topped the rankings. Defending regular-season champion Virginia Wesleyan ranked second with three first-place votes and Washington and Lee received two first-place votes in third position.

Coach Eric Lewis returns 17 letter-winners for his fifth season at the helm of the Quakers soccer team. Junior goalie Veronica Zych will likely receive her first shot as the Quakers' full-time starter. The squad will be led up top by senior Jennah Carter, the ODAC's reigning points (54) and goals (23) leader, and a First Team All-South selection.

Guilford opens the season Sept. 2 at Ohio Wesleyan in the Ohio Wesleyan Tournament. The Quakers play their first home match against Methodist Sept. 6 at 4:00.
