Guilford's Carter Lands More Weekly Soccer Honors
Greensboro, N.C. (9/18/06) -- Guilford College senior Jennah Carter won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Player of the Week and Guilford's Student-Athlete of the Week awards Monday for the second week in a row. The Guilford prize is sponsored by the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Carter stirred the polls again with her four goals and one assist during Guilford's two ODAC wins last week. She netted two goals and an assist in little over a half of action in the Quakers' league-opening win over Hollins Sept. 14. Two days later Carter scored both Guilford goals in the Quakers' overtime win over nationally ranked league-rival Virginia-Wesleyan, including the game-winning goal 1:29 into overtime.
Carter has a league-leading 18 points on an ODAC-best eight goals and two assists. She has scored all of her points and at least one goal over the last five matches and has three two-goal contests. With 98 career points, the 5-4 forward shares second place on Guilford's career scoring list with Kimberly Mullen '05. Carter's 20 career assists stand three shy of the school record.
Guilford's SAAC is comprised of representatives from each of the school's 16 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among student-athletes and non-student-athletes on the campus. Other recent Guilford SAAC activities include a canned-food drive to benefit local charities and dodgeball competitions among representatives from Guilford's administration and athletic teams.
Head coach Eric Lewis' Quakers have a 4-2 overall record (2-0 ODAC) entering Wednesday's ODAC game at Eastern Mennonite at 4:00 p.m.
