"Women's Soccer Release (2005) -Guilford Downs S. Virginia, 5-3, in W. Soccer" - Guilford College

Greensboro, NC (10/25/05) -- Jennah Carter and Trina Scurka each scored twice in Guilford's 5-3 nonconference women's soccer win over visiting Southern Virginia Tuesday. The Quakers' fifth straight triumph gives them 12 for the season, matching the school record for victories in a season set in 2004.

Trina Scurka

Scurka, one of four seniors making their final regular-season home appearance, opened the scoring with her fourth and fifth goals of the season in the match's first 10:34. Heather Ruggiero, another senior, set up Scurka's first goal and tallied her career-high ninth score at 18:15 for a 3-0 Guilford lead.

Southern Virginia (6-7-2) got on the board just under eight minutes later on the first of three Lindsie Butler goals. Butler's tally made the halftime score, 3-1, Guilford.

Carter scored off an Alissa VanZee-Phillips through ball in the opening minutes of the second half before Butler struck twice and pulled the Knights to within 4-3 with 6:12 remaining.

Carter netted an insurance goal, her 22nd of the year, on a header off of a Ruggiero cross. Carter matched the school record for goals in a season (22), which she shares with Amy Evans and Kimberly Mullen. Carter ends the regular-season with 52 points, three shy of the school record and the third-highest total in school history. She has 10 goals and five assists in her last five matches. Her 78 career points rank fourth on Guilford's career list.

The Quakers will host Eastern Mennonite Saturday (10/29) in an ODAC Tournament quarterfinal match.
