QUAKERS WIN THIRD CONSECUTIVE MATCH VERSUS MAROONS, 1-0
SALEM, VA (10/15/05) --The Roanoke College women's soccer team dropped
its third consecutive match, falling to visiting Guilford College 1-0 on
Saturday afternoon in Salem, VA. The Maroons are now 4-7-3 overall and 2-6-1 in
the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, while the winning Quakers improve to 8-5-2
and 4-4 in the ODAC. The win was the third in a row for the Quakers over the
Maroons.
The low scoring affair saw the lone goal come in
the 53rd minute. Guilford's Chelsea Glover moved unstopped through the
Maroon defense and from about 15 yards off the goal line ripped a cross cage
shot that slipped past Roanoke goalie Emma Jones. The Maroons had a quality
scoring chance thwarted by Guilford keeper Danielle Brisotti later in the
half. Roanoke freshman Meredith Grunewald was able to get behind the
Guilford defense, but her close-in shot was stopped by Brisotti, who then
collected the loose ball. Brisotti recorded the win, making four saves on
the day, while Jones suffered the loss for the Maroons, making three saves.
The Maroons are back in action on Friday
afternoon in a home match against Hollins University. After hosting Christopher
Newport on Sunday, the Maroons will then travel to Bridgewater the following
Wednesday. Guilford hosts Sweet Briar Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
