GUILFORD FALLS TO LYNCHBURG IN ODAC WOMEN'S SOCCER FINAL
Hornets win Sixth ODAC Title
LYNCHBURG, VA (11/5/05) --
Junior Kim Vaughan scored three times Saturday to lift the Lynchburg College
women's soccer team to a 4-0 win over Guilford College in the finals of the Old
Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament. The third-seeded Hornets win
their sixth championship in women's soccer and receive the conference's
automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament - beginning next week.
The Hornets got on the scoreboard just 24 seconds
into the game as Audrey Hamby headed in a Siobhan Budine cross. Lynchburg was
fouled in the box three minutes later and Vaughan drilled the penalty kick at
the 3:31 mark to give LC an early 2-0 lead. Vaughan found the back of the net
again 30 minutes into the half, netting a 30-yard shot. She added an insurance
goal midway though the second half - again from 30 yards out.
The Hornets out shot the Quakers 22-8 and held a
7-0 edge in corner kicks. Senior Katie DeLorenzo made four saves to record her
14th shutout of the season. Guilford keeper Danielle Brisotti made five
stops.
Fourth-seeded Guilford ends their season 13-5-3.
The Hornets (16-3-2) will find out Monday who, when and where they will play in
the NCAA Tournament. Lynchburg advanced the national quarterfinals in the 2004.
