Women's Soccer Release (2005) - Carter Scores Three in Guilford Women's Soccer Win - Guilford College

  • GUILFORD'S CARTER TAKES ODAC WOMEN'S SOCCER HONOR

Greensboro, NC (10/24/05) -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) awarded Guilford College junior Jennah Carter her second ODAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week Award Monday. Carter becomes the Quakers' first multiple winner of the weekly women's soccer prize since Amy Evans '02 in 2001.

Carter scored two hat tricks among her eight goals and four assists in the Quakers' 3-0 week. She netted the match's first three scores in Guilford's Oct. 19 triumph over visiting league-foe Sweet Briar. Three days later she collected two goals and a career-high three assists in the Quakers' 9-0 win at Hollins. Carter notched her second hat trick of the week and third of the season with three goals and an assist for a career-best seven points in Sunday's 8-1 league win at Randolph-Macon Woman's College.

The scoring binge gives Carter, a 5-6 forward, a league-high 47 points, the third-highest total in school history. She has 20 goals and seven assists headed into Tuesday's regular-season finale with visiting Southern Virginia at 4:00 p.m. Her ODAC-leading 20 goals also rank third, two tallies shy of the school record (22), set by Amy Evans '02 in 2001 and matched a year later by Kimberly Mullen '05. In 40 career matches, Carter has 28 goals and 19 assists for 75 points, the fourth-highest total in school history. With two more goals she will occupy fourth place on the school's career goal-scoring list, ahead of Betsy Noell '93.

Coach Eric Lewis' Quakers (11-5-2, 7-4 ODAC) carry a season-long four match winning streak into Tuesday's match. The Quakers await the result of Tuesday's Eastern Mennonite-Washington and Lee match to determine the team's standing for the 2005 ODAC Tournament. An Eastern Mennonite loss or tie gives Guilford fourth place in the league and a first-round home match in the ODAC Tournament, which begins this Saturday (10/29).
