Women's Soccer Release (2003) - All-State - Guilford College
GUILFORD PLACES TWO ON ALL-STATE WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAMGreensboro, NC (12/02/03) -- Guilford's Megan Barolet-Fogarty (Gainesville, FL/Eastside) and Jennifer Mundy (Murrells Inlet, SC/Waccamaw) earned spots on the inaugural 2003 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division Women's Soccer Team, the organization announced Tuesday.
The team is comprised of women's soccer players from North Carolina's NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA institutions. Sports information directors nominated student-athletes for the team, which was selected by NCCSIA members. The soccer teams mark the group's first all-state squads in any sport. A college division men's team, plus two university division all-state teams will be announced later this week. NCCSIA was founded in 2002.
A
center midfielder, Barolet-Fogarty earned honorable mention All-ODAC
laurels in her fourth and finest soccer season at Guilford. The senior finished
third on the team in scoring with seven goals and nine assists for 23 points,
all career highs. Her nine assists ranked second in the ODAC and fourth in
school history. Barolet-Fogarty started all 20 matches for Guilford,
which extended her streak of consecutive starts to 79, a Quakers' record. She
earned the ODAC's Women's Soccer Player of the Week Award October 27 for scoring
a goal and four assists during Guilford's 2-1 week.
Barolet-Fogarty leaves Guilford ranked fifth in school history with 52 points. Her 20 career assists mark the program's fourth-highest total and her 16 goals stand ninth. She is a dean's list triple major in sociology and anthropology, international studies and African-American studies and earned Verizon Academic All-District III honors this year.
Mundy,
a Second Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) midfielder, led the
Quakers in scoring and ranked 10th in the ODAC with 28 points on 12 goals and
four assists. The lone rookie on the all-state team, she placed seventh among
the league's goals leaders and 10th in points per game. Her 28 points and 12
goals both stand 11th on Guilford's season charts. Mundy captured the
ODAC's Player of the Week Award for the week of September 22. She scored six
goals in three conference wins that week, including a career- and team-high four
goals in a September 22 win over Emory & Henry. Mundy found the back
of the net in seven games, including three times in an 8-0 ODAC triumph over
Sweet Briar. Her four assists stood third on the team.
Barolet-Fogarty and Mundy helped Coach Eric Lewis' club post an 11-9 record, which ties the Quakers' mark for overall wins in a season. The team's 7-4 ODAC record set the school standard for league victories. Guilford reached the ODAC Tournament for the 13th straight time before falling in the quarterfinals at Eastern Mennonite, 2-0. The Quakers expect 25 letter winners back in 2004.
