Women's Soccer Release - ODAC poll - Guilford College
GUILFORD RANKED EIGHTH IN PRESEASON ODAC POLL
Greensboro, NC (08/21/02) -- Guilford's women's soccer team was picked eighth in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's (ODAC) preseason polls announced Wednesday. The polls were selected by the league's head soccer coaches. Three-time defending league champion Lynchburg tops the women's poll.
The Quakers have a new look as Eric Lewis takes over head-coaching duties for Forrest Collier, who resigned last spring to work for the Greensboro Youth Soccer Association. Lewis, a two-time NJCAA Region X Women's Soccer Coach of the Year at Louisburg College, inherits 10 letter winners from last season's 8-11-1 club (3-6 ODAC). Defending ODAC Player of the Year Amy Evans '02 is not among them as she graduated in May with seven school records, including career goals and points. Senior defender Alex Hutton (Collierville, TN/Hutchison School (Mississippi State)), a second-team all-conference player is back, as is junior midfielder Lori Layton (Westerville, OH/New Albany), an honorable mention All-ODAC pick in 2000.
Guilford begins the 2002 campaign in Greensboro College's Labor Day College Kick-Off August 31 against Maryville (TN). The Quakers' women visit 16-time Division I national champion UNC Chapel Hill September 6.
