GUILFORD'S HUTTON EARNS ACADEMIC SOCCER HONOR

Greensboro, NC (11/07/02) -- Senior Alex Hutton (Collierville, TN/Hutchison School) earned a spot on the Verizon Academic All-District III College Division Women's Soccer Team Thursday. She is eligible for selection to the College Division Academic All-America Team, which will be announced November 26.

The all-district team is comprised of women's soccer players from Division II and III institutions in the five-state area from Virginia to Florida. Nominees were starters or important reserves of sophomore academic standing or above who maintained at least a 3.20 grade point average. Selections are made by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Playing both defense and forward for the Quakers, Hutton started in 20 of Guilford's 21 matches. She enjoyed the finest offensive year of her career and ranked second on the team in points, goals and assists. Her 34 points rank eighth in Guilford history. Hutton scored 14 goals, including seven against Ferrum September 25. Her seven-goal, 15-point performance in the match set the Guilford and Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) marks for points in a match. Her seven tallies rank second in NCAA history (all divisions) and her 15 points mark the third-highest scoring game in Division III history.

A second team All-ODAC player in 2001, Hutton ends her career with 41 career points on 16 goals and nine assists. She stands ninth on the Quakers' career scoring list. A regular on Guilford's Student-Athlete Honor Roll, she is a dean's list exercise and sport science major.

Hutton helped coach Eric Lewis' team to its 12th straight ODAC Tournament berth where the Quakers fell to top-seeded Roanoke, 5-1, November 2. Guilford finished with a 9-10-2 overall record, the third-highest win total in school history.
