GUILFORD ADDS WOMEN'S SOCCER RECRUIT
Greensboro, NC (12/19/02) -- Guilford College head soccer coach Eric Lewis announced Rachel Gwin's (Titusville, NJ/Pennington School) intent to study and play soccer at Guilford Thursday.
A
midfielder, Gwin recently concluded her fourth and final season for coach Bill
Hawkey's Red Raiders. A team co-captain, she helped Pennington reach the final
of the New Jersey Independent School Athletic Association (NJSIAA) Class A
playoffs. Gwin played on the Red Raiders' Class B state titlists in 2001 and
1998. Her 2000 team placed second.
Gwin earned second-team All-NJSIAA Class B honors from 2000-02 and was a third-team all-state selection as a freshman. She helped the Red Raiders to the Patriot Conference title in each of her four years.
A
club soccer competitor for the Battle of Monmouth Strikers, Gwin helped the
Strikers to a pair of tournament titles and first place in the 2001 Garden State
Soccer League. Her 2001 Strikers' team finished third in the United States Youth
Soccer Association (USYSA) Region I Premier League.
Gwin joins 14 Guilford soccer letter winners due back next fall. The Quakers posted the third-highest win total in school history with a 9-10-2 overall record and went 4-6-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Guilford reached the ODAC Tournament Quarterfinals for the 12th straight year before falling to Roanoke, 5-1.
