Women's Soccer Release - All-ODAC Honorees - Guilford College
TWO QUAKERS EARN ALL-ODAC WOMEN'S SOCCER HONORS Greensboro, NC -- Guilford junior Alex Hutton (Collierville, TN/Hutchison School) earned first team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's soccer honors according to a vote of the league's head soccer coaches the league announced Tuesday. Sophomore midfielder Kimberly Mullen (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) received second team laurels.
Playing
as both a defender and forward for the Quakers this season, Hutton
started in 20 of Guilford's 21 matches. She enjoyed the finest offensive year of
her career and ranked second on the team in points, goals and assists. Her 34
points rank eighth in Guilford history. Hutton scored 14 goals, including
seven against Ferrum September 25. Her seven-goal, 15-point performance at
Ferrum set the Guilford and ODAC marks for points in a match. Hutton's seven
tallies rank second in NCAA history (all divisions) and her 15 points mark the
third-highest scoring game in Division III history.
To date, Hutton has 41 career points on 16 goals and nine assists and stands ninth on the Quakers' career scoring list. She earned a spot on the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District III College Division Women's Soccer Team and is eligible for selection to the College Division Academic All-America Team, which will be announced November 26.
A
starting midfielder, Mullen played in all 21 contests and tallied a
school season record-tying 55 points. She already ranks fourth on the Quakers'
career-points list. Her 22 goals and 11 assists paced the team and ties 2001
ODAC Player of the Year Amy Evans' '02 single-season school records. She
ranks 26th with 2.62 points per game in Division III and leads the ODAC in
points, goals and assists. Mullen posted a career- and team-high 12
points with five goals and two assists in a victory over Hollins. She netted
four goals and added one assist against Ferrum and had Guilford's only two goals
against Randolph-Macon Woman's College.
Hutton and Mullen helped coach Eric Lewis' team to its 12th straight ODAC Tournament berth where the Quakers fell to top-seeded Roanoke, 5-1, November 2. Guilford finished with a 9-10-2 overall record, the third-highest win total in school history.
