Guilford Races to 19-4 Victory Over Sewanee

Carrie ErnstGreensboro, N.C. (3/30/08) -- Sophomore Carrie Ernst scored a career-high four goals and matched a personal best with five points in Guilford College's 19-4 women's lacrosse victory over visiting University of the South (Sewanee).

The Quakers raced to a 14-3 halftime lead in their fifth win in six matches. Guilford scored the game's first five goals and Ernst had three tallies by the 19:25 mark of the first half. Sophomore Ellie Merrit scored her third goal of the half with 3:30 left before halftime, which gave the Quakers a 13-3 margin and kept the clock running for the rest of the game.

In all, 10 Quakers dent the twine as Guilford posted its highest scoring output of the season. Freshman Hannah Merrell had a goal and a game-high three assists. Sophomore Shelly Nogueira chipped in with two goals and two helpers. Ernst picked up a game- and career-high eight ground balls.

Catherine Sanders' three goals led the way for Sewanee (3-4).

Guilford returns to action Saturday (4/5) at Randolph-Macon College.
