Hopkins leads McDaniel to 17-4 win over Guilford

Westminster, Md. (3/4/07) -- Erinn Hopkins netted her first six goals of the season to lead McDaniel in a 17-4 victory over Guilford in non-conference women’s lacrosse action on Sunday. Meagan Mattson added three goals and an assist for the Green Terror (2-0), who recorded its most lopsided victory since a 24-11 victory over Haverford in 2002.

Carrie Ernst and Jordan Clodfelter led the Quakers (0-3) with two goals each.

Chelsea Ferruzzi converted McDaniel’s first shot of the game, finishing a Mattson feed just 1:51 into the game. Nearly a minute and a half later, Connie Wuenschel hit a free-position attempt to give the Green Terror a 2-0 lead.            

Michelle Mullen finished a Kerrie Wuenschel feed to make it a 3-0 game at the 4:12 mark. Hopkins and Lindsey McDonald finished solo runs 24 seconds apart to stretch the lead to 5-0 with 6:26 elapsed.

Ernst got Guilford on the board at the 9:15 mark, cutting the deficit to 5-1.            

Mattson hit an eight-meter shot midway through the first period before Hopkins tallied back-to-back markers to push the lead to 8-1. Ferruzzi and Sarah Mintz made it 10-1 before Ernst and Clodfelter netted goals 48 seconds apart to trim the deficit to seven.      

Mattson scored on either side of the intermission to re-establish a nine-goal advantage before Clodfelter tallied to draw the Quakers within 12-4. Hopkins added three more goals in the final 19:06 of the game, part of a 5-0 Green Terror run over the last 24:11.            

Hopkins paced McDaniel with four ground balls and two caused turnovers while adding two of the squad’s 15 draw controls. Stephanie Sudbrook added four draw controls.
