Women's Lacrosse Release (2006) - Preseason Poll - Guilford College

  • QUAKERS PICKED SEVENTH IN WOMEN'S LACROSSE ODAC POLL

Greensboro, NC (2/8/06) -- Guilford's women's lacrosse team was picked seventh in voting by Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) coaches according to the league's preseason poll, which was released Wednesday. Washington and Lee, the three-time defending ODAC champions, topped the poll with 81 points and nine first-place votes. Virginia Wesleyan placed second in the poll with 63 points.

Guilford head coach Matthew Grosso returns nine letter winners from last year's squad that went 5-9 overall. Last season's top three scoring leaders return to the team, including ODAC honorable mention pick Jordan Clodfelter, who scored 24 goals and six assists. Sophomores Caryn Washington and Mary Hutchins also return to the Quakers this year. A midfielder, Hutchins, finished her rookie season leading the Quakers with 30 goals and a school-record 21 assists and was named a 2005 All-South Atlantic selection. Washington returns to the attack position after completing last year with 17 goals and two assists. Freshman G Sarah DeCherney takes over as the Quakers' starting goalie.

Guilford kicks off the season Feb. 25 against cross-town rival Greensboro at 11:30 a.m. at Greensboro.
