GUILFORD'S CARYN STONE NAMED TO JEWISH ALL-AMERICA TEAM
Greensboro, NC (7/20/06) -- Guilford College's Caryn Stone earned a spot on the Jewish Sports Review's 2006 College Division All-America Women's Lacrosse Team. The team is listed in the July/August issue of The Jewish Sports Review and comprised of NCAA Division II and Division III student-athletes who have been identified to the publication as Jewish.
Stone,
a rising senior defender, earned Second Team All-Old Dominion Athletic
Conference (ODAC) honors last spring. Her 19 caused turnovers led the team and
her 41 ground balls ranked fourth. She also contributed 10 points on seven goals
and three assists. Stone scored a team- and season-high three points with
two goals and an assist in the Quakers' ODAC Tournament loss to Randolph-Macon.
A 2004 honorable mention All-ODAC performer, Stone ranks 13th in Guilford
history with 93 ground balls in 42 career games.
Coach Matthew Grosso's Quakers posted a 5-11 overall record, 3-5 in the ODAC. The team returned to the ODAC Tournament this year after a one-year absence, but fell to Randolph-Macon in the opening round. With no seniors on the 2006 roster, Grosso expects all 16 letter winners back in 2007.
