GUILFORD DROPS WOMEN'S LACROSSE MATCH AT CATHOLIC, 11-6
WASHINGTON, DC (4/3/05) -- Courtney Murray scored three goals and an assist in the second half to lead host Catholic to a come-from-behind win over Guilford College in nonconference women's lacrosse action Sunday. Murray helped the Cardinals (8-3) rally after Guilford (4-5) grabbed a 5-2 first-half lead.
Catholic won seven of nine second-half draw controls, which helped it control possession and limit Guilford's time on offense. The Cardinals outshot Guilford, 27-12, and enjoyed a 14-2 advantage in second-half shots.
Christine Thornton sparked a 6-0 Cardinals' run that gave the hosts an 8-5 lead before Guilford's Jordan Clodfelter netted her second tally of the day to make it an 8-6 contest with 18:30 left. Catholic scored the match's final four goals to take the win.
Thornton finished with two goals, two assists and a game-high 11 ground balls for the Cardinals. Marcy Cuneo added a goal and a game-high three assists off the bench. Jaclyn Seward also scored twice.
Guilford's Caryn Washington tallied two goals and an assist to pace the Quakers. Clodfelter also scored twice in Guilford's second loss in as many days.
