HUTCHINS SELECTED TO WOMEN'S LACROSSE ALL SOUTH ATLANTIC REGION TEAM
Greensboro, NC (5/20/05) -- Guilford College freshman Mary
Hutchins was selected to the 2005 Second Team All-South Atlantic Region
squad unveiled by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA)
Thursday. Hutchins becomes only the second Quakers' student-athlete to receive
all-region women's lacrosse honors. Guilford's Tina Beahan '97 was a Second Team
All-South attacker in 1996.
Hutchins, an attack wing, led the Quakers with 51 points on 30 goals and a Guilford-record 21 assists. The fifth-leading scorer in the ODAC, she ranked second on the team in draw controls (24) and fourth in ground balls (31). Hutchins scored four or more points in eight of 14 games, including a match- and career-best six goals in an 11-10 overtime victory over Greensboro in her first career game. She scored at least once in 13 of 14 contests and was Guilford's top scorer in 10 matches. Hutchins was also one of two Guilford players (along with Jordan Clodfelter) selected to the 18-member team representing the Southeast Super region at the U.S. Lacrosse Women's Division National Tournament at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA May, 27-29. The other 16 team members are student-athletes or graduates of Division I schools.
Hutchins helped first-year head coach Matthew Grosso's squad to a 5-9 overall record (2-6 ODAC), which represents a one-win improvement over 2004. The Quakers lose no seniors to graduation from this year's club and look forward to returning 13 letter winners next spring.
