GUILFORD DROPS HOME OPENER TO LEES-McRAE, 14-9

Greensboro, NC (03/07/04) --Lees-McRae scored the game's final four goals and halted Guilford's second-half comeback in a 14-9 women's lacrosse victory over the Quakers Sunday at Haworth Field. The Division II Bobcats improved to 1-3 with the win while Guilford falls to 0-2 after losing its home opener.

Freshman midfielder Stephanie Jaworski's (Wellington, FL/Wellington) goal 2:36 into the second half capped a 7-2 Bobcats' spurt and gave the guests a 10-5 lead. The Quakers answered with four straight tallies, two by junior attack Sarah Routhier (North Yarmouth, ME/Greely), who finished with a game-high six goals and one assist. Senior Lauren Goodwin (Newburyport, MA/Newburyport) first goal of the year capped the 4-0 run with 12:49 left in the game.

Freshman midfielder Sarah Wilkin (Winter Springs, FL/Lake Howell) responded for Lees-McRae with her second goal of the game just over two minutes later that restored the Bobcats' lead to two goals. The visitors won the ensuing draw control and sophomore Jenn Alevetsovitis (Baltimore, MD/Overlea) scored at 20:07 of the second half. Jaworski and Jenn Meyers (Manchester, MD/North Carroll) closed out Lees-McRae's scoring.

Jaworski totalled three second-half goals and an assist to lead Lees-McRae with four points. Meyers and Alevetsovitis also scored three times in the Bobcats' balanced effort. Sophomore Anita Hekman (Ontario, Canada/Toronto Christian) went the distance in goal and made nine saves for the Bobcats.

Routhier's six goals matched her career high and set a new personal best with seven points. Sophomore Moira Foley (Freeport, ME/Freeport) added two goals for the Quakers. Senior Brandi Rhoads (Walnut Creek, CA/Las Lomas) made a career-high 11 saves in goal.

Guilford plays its second of three games against Division II teams Wednesday (3/10) as it visits St. Andrew's. Lees-McRae plays at St. Vincent's Tuesday.
