GUILFORD'S CAHILL, ROUTHIER WIN ALL-ODAC LACROSSE HONORS Greensboro, NC (05/05/03) -- Guilford freshman Jenn Cahill (Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) and sophomore Sarah Routhier (North Yarmouth, ME/Greely) earned second-team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference lacrosse honors Monday according to a vote of the league's head coaches. The Quakers Lindsey Kennedy (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and Katie Rice (Worton, MD/Kent County) received honorable mention recognition.
Cahill
developed into the Quakers' top defender in her rookie season. She led the
team with 29 caused turnovers and ranked second with 47 ground balls. Cahill caused
a season-high five turnovers in Guilford's 9-4 win over Methodist and also had
five caused turnovers in the team's season-ending loss to Roanoke in the ODAC
Tournament. She recorded a career-high seven ground balls at Redlands. One of
six Guilford players to start in all 17 games, Cahill shared the team's
Most Valuable Defensive Player Award with Kennedy.
Routhier
(right) split time on the attack and in the midfield and led
the Quakers with 43 goals and four assists for 47 points, all career highs. She
ranks 10th among ODAC goals per game leaders and her 47 points mark the
10th-highest season total in school history. Her 43 goals are 12th on Guilford's
season list. Routhier topped the team with 49 ground balls and 39 draw
controls, both personal bests. She netted a career-high six goals in the
Quakers' 12-9 ODAC win over Bridgewater and also had six points (3 goals, 3
assists) in Guilford's season-opening win over Ferrum. Routhier scored a
goal in all but one contest this season and enjoyed 12 multi-goal games. The
Quakers' 2003 Most Valuable Offensive Player, she ranks 10th on Guilford's
career list with 75 points in 30 matches.
Kennedy,
also an honorable mention All-ODAC goalie in 2002, led the league in saves per
game (12.3) for the season straight season. The sophomore made 209 stops in 17
matches and had 10 or more saves in 13 of Guilford's games, including a
season-high 22-save performance at Whittier. She posted two games with 17 saves
and ranks sixth among ODAC saves percentage leaders. Kennedy picked up 35
ground balls and forced six turnovers. She trails only Lauren Gill '99
(719 saves) on the Quakers' career saves' list with 440 stops in two seasons.
Rice
(right) concluded her dedicated career as Guilford's
second-leading scorer with 18 goals, nine assists and 27 points, all personal
bests. A team captain and four-year starter, she played in the midfield as a
senior and enjoyed a pair of four-point matches in Guilford wins over Ferrum and
Methodist. Rice picked up 36 ground balls and placed third on the club
with 20 draw controls. She appeared in 53 career contests, all starts, and
scored 27 goals and 10 assists. She ranks fourth on Guilford's career ground
balls chart with 119.
Coach Tara Caminiti-Raggett's Quakers enjoyed their best season since 1999 with a 5-12 overall record, 3-5 in the ODAC. Guilford advanced to the ODAC Tournament for the sixth time in eight years. The Quakers lose only Rice to graduation and return 14 letter winners in 2004.
