Women's Basketball Announces 2009-10 Schedule Page Title
Greensboro, N.C. (10/8/09) -- Guilford College women's basketball coach Stephanie Flamini announced the schedule for the 2009-10 season Thursday. The slate features an opener versus Greensboro College and the Quakers' first Frostburg Tournament appearance. The schedule includes 11 home dates and 20 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchups.
The Quakers open the season Nov. 18 with a game against crosstown-rival Greensboro College. The contest will return to the Greensboro Coliseum after a two-year hiatus. The Quakers are 25-13 all-time versus the Pride after Greensboro's 72-55 win last season. Greensboro ended last year with a 27-3 record and reached the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.
On Nov. 20-21, Guilford heads to the Jim Crawley Tournament hosted by Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Md. In a tournament of first-time opponents for Guilford, the Quakers will take on the host Bobcats and either Gettysburg College or Wilkes University in the consolation or championship game.
Other notable matchups this season include the Quakers' two games against Randolph-Macon College. The Yellow Jackets were 23-6 in 2009-09 and won the ODAC title before falling to Thomas More College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Yellow Jackets won last year's two matchups with the Quakers. Another notable game is the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Pink Zone for Breast Cancer Awareness contest against Bridgewater College Feb. 5. WBCA Pink Zone raises awareness and resources in the fight against breast cancer through women's college basketball participants.
Guilford welcomes back eight letter winners and two starters from last year's team, including senior Ann Seufer, who holds Guilford's career and single-season records for three-point field goals. The Quakers will also add eight newcomers who improve the team’s depth. Last year’s squad finished 11-15 overall, 10-10 in the ODAC. The ODAC Tournament will be held Feb. 25-28 at the Salem (Va.) Civic Center.
