Guilford College Women's Basketball Schedule Announced

Greensboro, N.C. (9/24/07) -- Guilford College coach Stephanie Flamini announced the schedule for the 2007-2008 women’s basketball season Friday. The slate features the first Guilford College Classic Tournament and two nonconference matchups with Salem College. The schedule includes 13 home dates.

The Quakers open the season Nov. 16 and 17 in the Guilford College Classic, which also showcases the talents of Averett University, Ferrum College and York College (Pa.). Ferrum, which boasted a 21-7 record last season, finished first in the USA South Conference with a 12-2 record, but fell to Christopher Newport in the conference final, knocking the Panthers out of the league's NCAA Tournament bid.

Guilford plays local rival Greensboro College on the Pride's home court for the first time since 1999. Last year’s matchup, held at the Ragan-Brown Field House, ended in defeat for the Quakers as the Pride put together a strong second half in an 85-77 win. The win was the third straight for Greensboro over its Gate City neighbors.

The Quakers get two more shots at Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Virginia Wesleyan, which ended Guilford's season in the first round of last year’s ODAC Tournament. The Marlins, who finished second in the conference, defeated the Quakers on three different occasions in 2006-07.

Guilford welcomes back nine students from last year’s roster, including four starters. The Quakers added seven newcomers who strengthen the team's depth. Last year’s squad finished 10-16 overall and 9-11 in the ODAC.
