Guilford College Women's Basketball Community Service Project

Greensboro, N.C. (1/27/07) -- Guilford College’s women’s basketball team spent part of its mid-semester break at Oak Ridge (N.C.) Elementary School helping with the school’s Hoops for Hearts Kickoff clinic Jan. 3. The schoolchildren will participate in the basketball-themed event for the benefit of the American Heart Association Feb. 14.

Jenn Anderson ‘96, Guilford’s women’s tennis coach, teaches physical education at Oak Ridge and invited the Quakers to demonstrate their basketball talents to the school’s third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students. The students saw various skills, such as shooting and dribbling, that they will use in the Hoops for Hearts stations. They also got autographs and answered basketball trivia questions with winners receiving Guilford basketball T-shirts. A group of Oak Ridge students also participated in a scrimmage against the Quakers.
