WOMEN'S HOOPSTER KING NAMED GUILFORD STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Greensboro, NC (1/31/06) -- Senior Jennifer King received Guilford's Student-Athlete of the Week Award Tuesday. The honor is sponsored by Guilford's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and was given for the week ending Jan. 29.
King, a 5-8 guard, averaged 25.3 points, 7.0 rebounds,
3.0 assists and 1.7 steals in the Quakers' 2-1 week. She scored a game-high 27
points and had six rebounds and four assists in a victory over Randolph-Macon
Woman's College Jan. 24. On Saturday, King posted 17 points and five boards in a
loss to nationally-ranked Randolph-Macon. The next day, she totaled a game-high
32 points and 10 boards in a win over Virginia Wesleyan. The effort marked
King's second double-double this year and her fifth 30-point game of the
season, the most by a Guilford student-athlete since Brenda Davis '93 had six
30-point games in 1991-92.
King is the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's (ODAC) second-leading scorer (22.3 ppg) and ranks fifth in steals (2.50 spg), seventh in rebounds (7.3 rpg), eighth in assists (3.38 apg) and ninth in free-throw percentage (.757).
Coach Stephanie Flamini's Quakers (7-11, 6-7 ODAC) play the first of four consecutive road games Tuesday (1/31) at Hollins. Guilford's next home game is Feb. 11 against ODAC-rival Roanoke.
Guilford's SAAC is comprised of representatives from each of the school's 16 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford athletics and seeks to build community among student-athletes and non-student-athletes on campus. Other recent Guilford SAAC activities include a canned food drive to benefit local charities and dodgeball competitions between representatives of Guilford's varsity teams.
