      Bridgewater, VA (2/4/06) -- Bridgewater College took control midway through the first half Saturday afternoon and went on to defeat the Guilford College Quakers, 87-52, in ODAC women's basketball action.

 

      The Eagles led by 14 points, 38-24, at halftime and steadily pulled away in the second half for their 11th straight victory. The victory was also No. 200 in the career of head coach Jean Willi is who is now 200- 65 in her 10 seasons with the Eagles.

 

      Senior Marsha Kinder led the Eagles with 18 while Shannon Scales and Tori Ruckman each scored 13. Point guard Katy Herr led the Eagles in rebounding with nine and also added six points, five assists and three steals.

 

      Guilford's Jennifer King, the second-leading scorer in the ODAC, led the Quakers with 19 points. Freshman Kristine Ellis added 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for Guilford.

 

      With the victory, Bridgewater improved to 16-4 overall and 14-1 in the ODAC. Guilford dropped to 8-12 overall and 7-8 in the ODAC.

      Harrisonburg, VA (2/5/06) -- Senior center Amanda Renalds scored 21 points to lead Eastern Mennonite University to a 66-53 win over Guilford College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Sunday afternoon in Harrisonburg, VA.

      Eastern Mennonite (14-8, 10-7 ODAC) trailed only once at 10-9 with 6:39 expired in the first half.  The Royals then put together a 15-3 run to take an 11-point lead with 6:02 left in the half. Eastern Mennonite took a 30-23 lead into the break.

      Following a Renalds lay-up to open the second half, Guilford (8-13, 7-9 ODAC) put together a quick 9-2 run to pull within two at 34-32 with 16:11 remaining. However, Eastern Mennonite quickly fired back with a 12-0 run to regain control. It was part of an overall 19-2 run that gave the Royals a 53-34 lead with 10:20 to go. Guilford got no closer than 12 the rest of the way as Eastern Mennonite won 66-53.

      Renalds had 21 points and six rebounds to lead EMU. Junior guard Tara Jones added eight points off the bench.

Senior guard Jennifer King had a game-high 26 points along with three rebounds, and three steals. Freshman forward Kristine Ellis turned in 10 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and three blocks.

      The Lady Royals led in rebounds 41-28, shot 44.2% from the floor, hit 3-of-11 three-pointers, and went 17-for-28 (60.7%) from the free throw line. The Quakers shot 38.5% from the floor, hit 3-of-14 from long range, and connected on 10-of-14 (71.4%) of their free throws.

      Guilford returns to action Tuesday (2/7) traveling to play ODAC-foe Randolph-Macon Woman's College at 7:00 p.m.
