GUILFORD'S JENNIFER KING EARNS SECOND TEAM ALL-STATE HONORS
Greensboro, NC (3/31/06) -- Guilford College's Jennifer King earned a spot on the 2006 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division Women's Basketball Team, the organization announced Friday. King, a second-team selection, is Guilford's first NCCSIA all-state women's basketball honoree in the squad's brief history.
The all-star units are comprised of basketball student-athletes from North Carolina's NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA institutions. The state's sports information directors nominated student-athletes for the teams, which were selected by NCCSIA members. NCCSIA was founded in 2002.
King,
a 5-8 senior guard, enjoyed one of the finest women's basketball campaigns in
school history. She received Second Team D3hoops.com All-South Region honors and
was a First Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) selection. The team
captain ranked seventh in NCAA Division III and second in the ODAC with 22.0
points per game, the third-best figure in Guilford history. Her 594 points stand
second on the Quakers' season scoring list. King placed eighth in the
league rebounding (7.1 rpg.), 12th in assists (3.15 apg.), seventh in free-throw
percentage (.798) and ninth in steals (2.07 spg.).
King scored 20 or more points in 19 games, led the Quakers' scorers 22 times and had four double-doubles. Her best performance came at Emory & Henry Jan. 18, where she scored a career-high 36 points and added eight rebounds, six steals and four assists. She also had four more 30-point games. King scored 24 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds in Guilford's Feb. 11 victory over Roanoke. She totaled 10 points and 10 rebounds in the 2006 ODAC/USA South Athletic Conference Senior All-Star Game March 22.
King finished her career as Guilford's third all-time leading scorer with 1,601 points in 106 games. The Quakers' career leader in three-pointers (166) and three-point attempts (544), she is Guilford's third women's basketball student-athlete to compile 1,500 points and 500 rebounds in her career. King also ranks among Guilford's all-time leaders in free throws (2nd), free-throw percentage (4th), steals (4th), assists (5th) and rebounds (10th). The two-time All-ODAC basketball selection recently joined the Quakers' softball team for her fourth and final diamond campaign.
King captained coach Stephanie Flamini's team to an 11-16 record
(9-11 ODAC) and a berth in the ODAC Tournament semifinals. Guilford expects
eight letter winners back in 2006-07.
