GUILFORD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL INVOLVED IN "SPOOKY" ACTIVITIES
Greensboro, NC (10/25/04) -- For the second year in a row, Guilford College's women's basketball team got caught up in the Halloween spirit. The Quakers gathered on campus October 25 to carve pumpkins and donate them to an area organization.
Head
coach Stephanie Flamini introduced the idea in 2003 as a way for the team
to bond with each other and participate in a community-service project. Last
year the pumpkins were delivered to several nursing homes in the Greensboro
community. The team delivered this year's finished products to the Little Feet
Learning Center, a new state-of-the-art learning center located in Stokesdale.
"A lot of the women in our program have carved pumpkins before, but have never used the carving kits. At first they thought it would be hard to do the designs, but once they got started, they really enjoyed themselves and were surprised by what they could do," Flamini said. "After a while, it started to become a competition to see who could carve the best pumpkin."
"I had fun," said freshman Hillary Henderson, who said that this was her first time using the carving kits. "It was a good bonding experience."
Overall, it was a fun evening for the team. However, there was no consensus on who carved the best pumpkin.
