GUILFORD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM PICKED SIXTH IN ODAC POLL
Salem, VA (11/11/04) -- Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's basketball coaches picked Guilford sixth in their preseason poll, the league announced Thursday at its annual media day at the Salem Civic Center. Defending ODAC regular-season champion Randolph-Macon paced the poll for the second straight year and received seven first-place votes. Bridgewater ranked second and had four first-place votes.
Second-year head coach Stephanie Flamini has three letter winners, including two starters, from last season's 17-9 unit that reached the ODAC Tournament semifinals for the 11th time in 13 years. The Quakers' preseason roster also includes 10 true freshmen. Senior forward Courtney Hill earned the 2002 ODAC Freshman of the Year Award, but has not played a full season since her rookie campaign. She missed the final nine games of 2003-04 with a knee injury and averaged 8.1 points and 6.4 boards per game last year. Junior guard Jennifer King is Guilford's top returning scorer (10.5 ppg.) and received honorable mention all-conference honors as a freshman.
Guilford opens the season November 19 against Ferrum in a four-team tournament
hosted by Ferrum. The Quakers' first home game is December 11 against ODAC-rival
Emory & Henry.
