Women's Basketball Release (2004-05) - ODAC Pairings - Guilford College

  • GUILFORD WOMEN SEEDED SEVENTH FOR ODAC HOOPS TOURNEY

Greensboro, NC (2/21/05) -- Guilford College earned the seventh seed for this week's Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women's Basketball Tournament, the league announced Monday. The 22nd annual tournament begins this Thursday (2/24) in the Salem (VA) Civic Center. The seventh-seeded Quakers play second-seeded Bridgewater at 6:00 p.m. in the Thursday's third quarterfinal game. Guilford finished the regular season with an 11-14 overall record and a 9-11 ODAC mark.

Junior guard Jennifer King leads the Quakers in scoring (15.0 ppg.), three-pointers (51) and free-throw shooting (.753). She ranks third among the conference scoring and needs seven points to become Guilford's 13th member of the 1,000 career points club. Senior forward Courtney Hill, who reached the 1,000-point plateau Feb. 6, ranks among the league's top-six players in scoring (14.5 ppg), rebounding (8.1 rpg) and field-goal percentage (.481). Freshman Brittiany Green has developed into an important post presence for the Quakers and has averaged 13.7 points and 9.2 rebounds in the last 11 games. For the season she averages 9.3 points and 8.0 boards (7th in the ODAC) per game.

Randolph-Macon (23-1, 20-0 ODAC) secured the tourney's top seed with a league-record 20-0 regular-season record. (Roanoke went 18-0 in 1989-90 and 1990-91.) The Yellow Jackets play eight-seeded Washington and Lee, which lost a tie breaker for the seventh spot. Fourth-seeded Emory & Henry faces number-five Eastern Mennonite at 2:30 p.m. The third-seeded Roanoke Maroons face sixth-seeded Virginia Wesleyan in Thursday's last quarterfinal. The tournament champion received the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament field.

Guilford has reached the ODAC Tournament in both of Coach Stephanie Flamini's two seasons and has not missed the tourney since joining the league in 1992. The Quakers won the ODAC Tournament title in 2001 and 2002. The team has reached the semifinals 11 times and owns a 16-11 all-time ODAC Tournament record.
