GUILFORD'S GREEN NAMED ODAC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Greensboro,
NC (2/7/05) --
Guilford College freshman Brittiany Green received the Old
Dominion Athletic Conference's (ODAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Award for the week ending Feb. 6, the league announced Monday. Green is
the team's first recipient of the prize this season.
Green, a 6-2 center, averaged 18.0 points, 13.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game in Guilford's three home wins, two against the ODAC's second- and third-place teams. She scored a career-high 19 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds in the Quakers' 85-74 victory over Hollins Feb. 1.
On Feb. 5, Green tallied game highs of 17 points and 10 rebounds in a 57-55 win over second-place Bridgewater. The next day, she scored a game-high 18 points and had a game- and career-high 15 rebounds in helping Guilford build a 17-point lead over third-place Eastern Mennonite. After Green fouled out with five minutes remaining, the margin shrunk quickly, but the Quakers held on for the win, 56-55.
After her stellar week, Green moved into the team lead in rebounding (8.0 rpg). She also tops the Quakers in blocked shots (24) and is fourth on the squad in scoring (8.2 ppg). Green currently ranks seventh in the ODAC in rebounding, sixth in field-goal percentage (.468) and eighth in blocked shots.
Coach Stephanie Flamini's Quakers (8-13, 6-10 ODAC) have won three straight games and five of their last seven. Guilford completes a four-game home stand Tuesday (2/8) against conference-foe Randolph-Macon Woman's College at 7:00 p.m.
