Women's Basketball Release - Hill POW - Guilford College

  • HILL WINS WEEKLY  WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PRIZE

Greensboro, NC (01/13/03) -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) selected Guilford sophomore Courtney Hill (Kannapolis, NC/North Rowan) as its Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of January 6 Monday. Hill becomes the Quakers' first recipient of the weekly prize this year and has received the award twice in her career.

A 5-8 forward, Hill averaged 19.3 points and 10.0 rebounds per game in Guilford's 3-0 week. She made 24 of 36 shots from the floor (66.7%) and led the Quakers' scorers and rebounders in three home victories. Hill notched a double-double with 23 points and a career-high 12 boards in Guilford's 66-58 triumph over Roanoke January 8. She netted eight points during a decisive 17-3 second-half run that erased a six-point deficit and gave Guilford the lead for good. Hill tallied a game-high 21 points and eight boards in her team's 75-53 win over Emory & Henry January 11. Her second double-double in three games (14 pts., 10 reb.) led Guilford to a 72-54 league win over Hollins the following day.

Hill, the 2001-02 ODAC Rookie of the Year, returned to Guilford in January after studying at UNC Greensboro for the fall semester, where she did not play basketball. She tops the team in scoring (18.6 ppg.), rebounding (8.0 rpg.) and field-goal percentage (.698) and has led Guilford's scorers in each of her five appearances.

Coach Barb Bausch's Quakers (7-4, 5-2 ODAC) have won seven of their last eight games, including four straight. The two-time defending league champs put their school-record 17-game home winning streak on the line this weekend with conference contests against Eastern Mennonite (1/17, 7:00 pm) and Bridgewater (1/18, 4:00 pm).
