Women's Basketball Release - Bausch Resigns - Guilford College

  • BAUSCH RESIGNS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL POST AT GUILFORD

Greensboro, NC (05/27/03) -- Barb Bausch resigned as Guilford College's women's basketball coach after 10 seasons Tuesday to accept a position as an assistant women's basketball coach at Division I Cal State Fullerton, her alma mater. She also served as the senior woman administrator in Guilford's athletic department.

Guilford's all-time leader in women's basketball coaching victories, Bausch guided the Quakers to a 187-80 mark and the school's first two NCAA Division III Tournament berths and Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) titles. Including a year as the interim women's basketball coach at Pomona-Pitzer, Bausch owns a 200-92 overall coaching record in 11 seasons and ranked among the winningest active NCAA Division III women's coaches through 2002.

Bausch won the ODAC Coach of the Year Awards in 1995 and 2000 and coached four ODAC Players of the Year and two ODAC Rookies of the Year. The Quakers finished 20-7 in 2002, their third straight 20-win season and the fourth 20-win campaign in Bausch's tenure. Her 2001-02 unit won a school-record 25 games and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season. Guilford won ODAC women's basketball titles in 2001 and 2002.

A 1987 Cal State Fullerton graduate, Bausch will be reunited with one of her mentors, Dr. Maryalyce Jeremiah, a 23-year coaching veteran who returned to the Titans' sidelines in April after 11 years as one of the school's top athletic administrators. Jeremiah coached Cal State Fullerton to a 112-93 record and two NCAA Tournament appearances from 1985-92 before assuming an administrative post. Bausch earned her master's degree in sport psychology from Cal State Fullerton in 1989.

The Quakers' new basketball coach inherits all 13 letter winners from the 2003 team, including senior A.J. Robertson (Eden, NC/Morehead) and junior Courtney Hill (Kannapolis, NC/North Rowan), both second-team All-ODAC picks in 2003. Guilford athletic director Marion Kirby will lead a national search for Bausch's successor with hope of filling the position by July.
