Guilford Goes 2-0 in First Day of Greensboro College Tournament
GREENSBORO, N.C. (9/11/09) -- Guilford College's volleyball team posted straight-set wins over host Greensboro College and Salem College Friday afternoon on the opening day of the Greensboro College Volleyball Tournament in Hanes Gym.

The Quakers (5-3) downed the host Pride, 25-22, 28-26, 25-19, for the second time in less than a week behind a team-best eight kills and three service aces by Anna Miller. Taylor Phillips had 23 assists for Guilford and teammate Bethany Hawks (Snow Camp. N.C../Southern Alamance) added a match-high 23 digs. Greensboro's Kacie Hyatt led all students with 13 kills and added a club-high 17 digs.

Guilford defeated Salem, 25-19, 25-17, 25-14, in its second match of the day. Freshman Brittany Freeman put away a match-high 14 kills on .480 hitting and Mary Moody added 10 putaways and 14
digs. Guilford hit .319 as a team. Christine Tillman led the Spirit (3-5) with seven kills, three service aces and four blocks.
The Quakers play Piedmont (10 a.m.) College and Randolph-Macon College (4:00 p.m.) Saturday on the tournament's final day.
