Volleyball Release (2005) - ODAC Preseason Poll - Guilford College

  • GUILFORD COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL SQUAD PICKED EIGHTH IN ODAC POLL

Greensboro, NC (8/24/05) -- The Guilford College volleyball team was picked eighth in the preseason Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) poll released Wednesday. The Quakers received 34 points in the 11-team poll, which was chosen by the league's head coaches.

Four-time defending champion Washington and Lee received nine first-place votes and the poll's top spot with 119 points. Randolph-Macon picked up the remaining two first-place votes and finished in second place, 17 points behind the Generals. Virginia Wesleyan rounds out the top three, finishing with 79 points.

Coach Glenda Dellinger starts her third season as the Quakers' head coach. Last season she guided Guilford to an 8-21 mark, and placed ninth in the ODAC. This year's team features just one returning letter winner from last year's squad. Sophomore Leah McKinney will be counted on to provide leadership to a team that features 10 freshmen. The Quakers expect 2004 News and Record Player of the Year Becca Jones and Delaware native Brittani Leathern to form the backbone of a young, but talented, squad.

Guilford opens the 2005 season on the road at Salem September 5. The Quakers make their home debut two days later when they host Peace.
