Volleyball Release (2005) - North Carolina Wesleyan Loss - Guilford College

 

      Rocky Mount, NC (9/13/05) -- The Bishop volleyball squad continued its impressive play of late, sweeping Guilford College by scores of 30-15, 30-22, and 30-16 on Tuesday night in Everett Gym. Erin Bryant paced Wesleyan with a game-high 10 kills. North Carolina Wesleyan has now won six of its last seven contests and stands at 6-4 on the season. With the loss, the Quakers drop to 2-4 overall.

 

      Wesleyan never allowed Guilford to find a rhythm and jumped out to early leads in all three games. April Wilson added eight kills and six blocks for the Bishops, while Caitlin George tallied 22 assists. Melissa Leonard once again anchored the NCWC defense with a game-high 16 digs on the night.

 

      For Guilford, Brittiani Leathern recorded nine kills, and Emily Becher chipped in with eight. Becca Jones added 22 assists, while Kaci Loeffler led the Quakers defensively with 10 digs.

 

     As a team, Wesleyan recorded a .253 hitting percentage compared to Guilford's .030. The Bishops also dominated the blocks category with eight.

 

      The Quakers next two games will be on the road.  Guilford returns to the court Thursday (9/15) to take on the defending Old Dominion Athletic Conference Champion Washington and Lee at 7:00 p.m., and then turns around the next day to play at Virginia Wesleyan on Friday (9/16) at 5:00 p.m.
