Volleyball Release (2004) - Parsio earns All-ODAC - Guilford College

  • GUILFORD'S PARSIO NAMED TO ALL-CONFERENCE VOLLEYBALL TEAM

Greensboro, NC (11/09/04) -- Guilford College senior Mackenzie Parsio earned a spot on the Second Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) volleyball squad, the league announced November 5. This is Parsio's the first all-league honor.

Parsio, a 5-10 hitter, led the Quakers in kills, attempts, and hitting percentage. She finished second on the team in blocks and third in service aces this season. She set Guilford records for kills in a season and kills per game average (5.03). Her 508 kills surpassed the previous single season mark of 416, set by Brenda Davis '93 in 1991. She led the team with 1,321 attempts and had a .172 hitting percentage. She tallied 911 career kills in just three seasons, a mark good enough for fourth on the Quakers' all-time list.

A senior captain, Parsio recorded double-digit kills in 25 of 29 games this season and won the league's player of the week award for the week of Sept. 13. On Sept. 30, she set an ODAC and school record with 40 kills in 3-2 win over Meredith. On Sep. 25, she notched 32 kills while hitting .455 in a 3-1 loss to Virginia Wesleyan. On Oct. 16 against Bridgewater, Parsio tallied 19 kills, eight digs, and five blocks. There were only two games the entire season in which she did not lead the team in kills. She went over 20 kills in 11 games and earned all-tournament recognition at events hosted by Guilford and Greensboro College.

Coach Glenda Dellinger's Quakers finished the season 8-21 overall, 3-8 in the ODAC. The Quakers failed to reach the ODAC Tournament for the second year in a row and expect five letter winners back next year.
