GUILFORD'S ROBERTSON EARNS ACADEMIC VOLLEYBALL HONORS
Greensboro, NC (11/13/03) -- Guilford College senior A.J. Robertson (Eden, NC/Morehead) earned First Team Verizon Academic All-District III College Division Volleyball honors Thursday. A second-team Verizon Academic All-District III honoree in 2002, Robertson is Guilford's first first-team academic all-district volleyball honoree since 1994. She is a dean's list student majoring in biology, chemistry, and health science.
The all-district teams are comprised of volleyball players from Division II and III institutions in the five-state area from Virginia to Florida. Nominees were starters or important reserves of sophomore academic standing or above who maintained at least a 3.20 grade point average. Selections are made by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Robertson
recently concluded her fourth and finest volleyball season for the
Quakers. She led the Quakers in kills (379), hitting percentage (.151),
service aces (53), and digs (264). Robertson ranked seventh among
Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) leaders with a 3.72 kills per game
average, which stands seventh in school history. Her 53 aces rank fifth in
Guilford history. She led the Quakers in kills in 23 of 29 matches and had
18 matches with 10 or more putaways.
A member of the all-tournament teams at the Greensboro Invitational and the Guilford Invitational, Robertson hit .356 with 27 kills, both career highs, in the final home match of her career October 31 against Roanoke. She also had at least 20 kills in wins over Sweet Briar, Peace and Virginia Wesleyan. Robertson had 12 matches with 10 or more digs, including a season-best 20 pickups against Peace and Virginia Wesleyan. She recorded a career-high seven aces in a triumph over Hollins, which matched the highest four-game aces total in school history.
Guilford's 2002-03 Best Undergraduate Female Athlete, Robertson concludes her volleyball ranked among the Quakers' career leaders in many categories. Her 842 career kills stand fifth on Guilford's all-time list, while her 155 service aces stand second. She compiled 1,051 digs in 197 career contests, the fourth-highest total in school history, and became the third Guilford player with 1,000 career kills and digs. Robertson leaves Guilford in fifth place on the school's career solo blocks (128) and blocks assists (256) lists.
Robertson, a three-year team captain, played in every game for first-year head coach Glenda Dellinger this season. A two-sport star, she also plays for the Quakers' basketball team. Guilford's volleyball team compiled a 6-23 overall record in 2003, 3-8 in the ODAC.
