PUE-GILCHRIST NAMED ODAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Greensboro, NC (09/30/02) -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) selected Guilford College senior Jennifer Pue-Gilchrist (Topsail Beach, NC/Leesville Road) as its Volleyball Player of the Week the league announced Monday.
Pue-Gilchrist
is the loop's volleyball player of the week for the
second week in a row and the third time in her career. The 5-10 senior outside
hitter averaged 4.3 kills and 3.5 digs per game while hitting .364 in Guilford's
3-0 week. She posted a career-high 28 kills and a team-best 14 digs in
Guilford's five-set ODAC win over Sweet Briar September 24. The team captain hit
.478 in the contest, which marked Pue-Gilchrist's fourth match of the
year with 20 or more kills. She paced the Quakers with 16 putaways and 21
pickups in a 3-1 league win over Randolph-Macon Woman's College September 28.
Later in the day she made seven kills, seven digs, four blocks and four aces in
a 3-0 win over Peace.
Pue-Gilchrist leads Guilford's hitters with 4.17 kills per game and a .307 hitting percentage. She also tops the club with 3.85 digs per game. Pue-Gilchrist opens the week ranked third in the ODAC in kills, fourth in digs and eighth in hitting percentage.
Coach Chuck McCracken's Quakers (8-7, 3-2 ODAC) enter Wednesday's (10/2) league match at Hollins on a three-match winning streak. Guilford has won six of its last seven contests and has its most wins since the 1997 club went 14-16.
