Volleyball Release - Akbari Named Assistant Coach - Guilford College

  • RODDY AKBARI NAMED ASSISTANT VOLLEYBALL COACH AT GUILFORD

Greensboro, NC (09/16/02) -- Guilford College Director of Athletics Marion Kirby announced the selection of Roddy Akbari as an assistant coach for the Quakers' volleyball team Monday. Akbari will assist head coach Chuck McCracken.

Akbari played for the Iranian Junior Volleyball National Team from 1985 to 1986 and competed against Turkey, China and Japan. He is also a member of the U.S. Volleyball Association. Akbari has played in numerous volleyball tournaments in North and South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

A 1992 Campbell University graduate, Akbari received a bachelor of science in mathematics. In 1995, he acquired his master of mathematics from Winthrop University. He was an assistant volleyball coach at both schools while enrolled. As an assistant coach, Akbari evaluated and recruited student athletes and was also responsible for player skill development.

Akbari has also spent time as a professor. He was a mathematics instructor at Randolph Community College and Central Piedmont Community College from 1994 to 1999. Since 1999, he has been an assistant professor of mathematics at Guilford Tech.
