North Carolina Wesleyan Sweeps Doubleheader With Guilford
Greensboro, N.C. (3/20/08) -- Visiting North Carolina Wesleyan College swept a nonconference doubleheader from Guilford College Thursday, 12-1 and 6-5.
In the opener, the Bishops broke open a 3-1 game with two runs in the sixth and seven in the seventh en route to the 12-1 win. Ashlee Bass put the Bishops on the board with a two-run triple in the guests' three-run third inning.
The Quakers got their run in the fifth on an RBI ground out by Morgan Freyer, but the Bishops scored on a wild pitch and RBI single by Carla Pridgen in the fifth. Pinch-hitter Libby Fulford delivered a three-run triple in the Bishops' seventh as the visitors sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning.
In game two, Pridgen scored on a Quakers' error in the top of the eighth inning and Fulford threw two innings of scoreless relief as North Carolina Wesleyan completed the sweep.
Kelly Guarnieri's two-run single in the second gave the Quakers a short-lived 5-3 lead as the Bishops tied the game in the next inning on Whitney Moshier's two-out, two-run single.
